About Sabine den Hartogh, PhD

I am an independent thinker with a strong technical background and with more than 15 years of relevant work experience in the sector of life sciences and healthcare

Intrigued by novel innovations that can break through existing barriers and change status quo. Strong believer of the revolutionary impact of artificial intelligence in life sciences and health innovations, benefiting both humanity and planetary health

In my PhD research I established a novel stem-cell based culture model to allow studying and unravelling key genomic pathways in human embryonic heart development, aiming to unlock cues for cardiac regeneration as therapeutic approach for myocardial infarction-induced heart failure

Over the last 10-15 years, I have spent time in pharmaceutical R&D start-ups and corporate environments, including a CDMO and investment banking. I have been taking up operational and analytical roles in corporate/business development and investment projects. I have sat on multiple early-stage boards of startups active in various therapeutic areas with headquarters in Europe and USA

Relevant experience:

  • Involved in the successful IPO of a medtech company on the Euronext exchange

  • Managed a VC investment portfolio for a CDMO in the pharmaceutical industry. Fund size EUR 150 million and composing of early-stage biotech companies. Reported to the CFO and collaborated with multidisciplinary work streams (finance, risk, R&D)

  • Led VC investment deals between EUR 5 - 15 million in size

  • Advised two state-owned VC funds focused on impact investing on investment strategy and selected investment projects

  • Deep technical expertise and commercial knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry

  • Well connected with international VC and industry expert networks

I bring and combine these experiences in my current role as advisor and company builder

On a personal note, when I’m not thinking about science or business, you’ll often find me cycling. Mountain road cycling has taught me the value of preparation, endurance, pacing, and mental resilience on long climbs to the summit. As an entrepreneur, these qualities translate into long-term thinking, perseverance, disciplined execution, and calm decision-making under pressure—essential for reaching meaningful goals

Let's connect! I work with companies from all over the world
